My summer plans

I just sent a friend an email telling her I was really interested in learning how to can fruits and veggies this summer.

She said awesome, she's been wanting to do this, she's all for it.

I used to help my mom can. I thought it was cool. I know very few people, however, who still do this. I don't even think my mom does.

My grandmother used to make jams and jar them with wax in a double boiler. I'd love to do that!

I love canning. I didn't do any last year due to the wedding and the time and money constraints because of it, though. I generally will do pickled beets and/or carrots, dill pickles, sweet n' sour pickles, pears, peaches, whatever looks good and I wanna keep around for the winter. Of course, here, there is a better variety o' stuff year-round so I don't know that I'll do much at all.

Another pickles and carrots girl, as well as pears. At my other house, I used to have a huge raspberry garden and every summer my sister used to come up and make jam for two or three days. I love it, but I think you're right, not many do it anymore.
