DWTS: Yeah, I watched

This season sucked me in since Meryl Davis & Charlie White were competing.

I know people 'ship hard on the teams, and the dance moves add fuel to the speculative fire. Which is not unlike the ice dancing chemistry that couples try to perpetuate on the ice. I thought Meryl & Maks did a clever job handling it. Maks jokes a little, Meryl acts like she is deaf to it all, the hungry audience gets nothing, NOTHING I TELL YOU! Tune in next week to maybe see something that might tip you off!

Last night, the LAST night, after being asked about it, for what I am sure was the eleventydozenth time, Maks said this:

"I want to ravage her and have ice-skating, big, Russian, mean babies. We’re going to call them Boris and Oleg. Their nicknames are going to be Bear. Both. One nickname for both."

Bah! He really said that? They were on GMA or the Today Show (whatever we had on at work) and while I wasn't listening with both ears, I think they were getting grilled big time about their relationship. From my half listening I assumed they were a thing - is it just a speculated thing?

I don't know if they are a thing.

From what I understand, the show breeds this, both in actuality and in rumor. Teams work closely together for many hours under intense pressure, and success requires a lot of trust, intimacy, and touching. So I think the "stars" and the dancers form pretty tight bonds regardless of any romantic business.

Some of the dancers and their partners have emerged from previous seasons as "couples." I think during the season, teams do not reveal anything one way or the other, although they will certainly not squash speculation since it's good for the show, the ratings, the voting, and all of that. I mean, as long as they're not married to other people.

In this particular case, Meryl is already in a professional relationship where she maintains a "are they or aren't they" aura of mystery with her partner. She and Charlie do come out and say "We're not that kind of couple" but they also make it clear that they have an intensive partnership and a complicated relationship and love each other and blah blah blah. I read somewhere that it helps with their ice dancing if they can "sell it" during their routines.

SO. That being the case, I think (a) it's 100% natural for Meryl to do the same thing on this show; and (b) until she retires from ice dancing, she might be reluctant to enter a very public relationship with a person who is not Charlie. Maybe? I dunno?

Or maybe we'll see a leaked sextape of their threesome.

Not sure I could handle seeing Charlie White as anything but an adorable teddy bear. He is like a big puppy to me; I think it's the hair.
