Today we had someone out to look at our roof leak. The guy said the shingles by the roof vent were put on backwards, as they were for about half the units in our community.
Mark asked why the builder wouldn't be liable for something as egregious as that.
The guy said, "well, you see, you guys live in low-income housing."
Well, golly, I knew most houses in Ann Arbor are a lot pricier than ours, but I hadn't quite thought what we lived in was Section 8 material.
Mark just called me so we could have a huge laugh over it.

Cranky's looking for a hand up, not a hand out...
I think even I could figure out how to put shingles on!

Date: 2003-08-26 12:39 pm (UTC)I guess what he meant was "No, like everything else, your roof has a one-year warranty from the builder, and because you're cheap fucks who didn't pay half-a-mil, the builder used morons who didn't know what they are doing."
I assume the nice houses also have 1-yr warranties, but they actually try to do stuff the right way on those?

Date: 2003-08-26 01:34 pm (UTC)Seems to me they might go after the builder legally for all the repairs, but maybe that's more of a legal hassle than it's worth until you get up to a certain $$ amount of builder fuck-ups.

Date: 2003-08-26 09:25 pm (UTC)No, seriously, it's nice of you to say that.
The guy is clearly a moron. I am sure he meant "Non-luxury." As in, just normal, not fancy.
