Aigh, fuck.

Baby Luke is in the hospital with RSV and pneumonia.

Since I can't do jack shit about that, it would raise my spirits ever so much today if there was a coup in Iraq today. And Saddam Hussein was flayed alive. But slowly. Then all our guys could draw back and have barbeques and play beach volleyball in the dessert until we could get 'em home.e

Kyla and I are going to Chicago next weekend. Amtrak has a deal right now where two can go cheaper than one and the three people can go for the price of two.

I haven't checked availability today, but if there are seats, we could all go to Chicago for about $35, I think.

So. If you've got pals to visit in Chicago, and would be up for leaving Friday night, returning Sunday night, let me know ASAP.r

I knew a few people from online back when the internet first took off, but I confess I felt that people who developed deep friendships online were a little odd. Perhaps a little socially dysfunctional.

I sing a different tune now.

I can't believe what a great source of friendship and happiness the SDMB (and by association, the LJ) has been. I can't express this without coming off as schmaltzy; forgive me. I have "met" some very interesting people online, and am particularly fortunate to be situated geographically in a place where some of them can become face-to-face friends. Genuine, come-on-over-and-hang-out-even-if-we're-doing-nothing friends. Friends who come to game nights, or knitting circles, or parties.

I just ponder that sometimes and think it's nifty.

In a followup to my tailspin from yesterday.... it turns out that my lost license was turned in somewhere in Nebraska and it was returned by mail to the Sec'y of State here in MI. They marked my file as having surrendered my MI license to get a NE one. Not quite sure how/why that conclusion was drawn. Anyway, that's why they "turned down" my request for a replacement license. Odd chain of events, really. I'm quite pleased a phone call was enough to straighten it out.

I got my present from Demo today. Never did one so undeserving as I, before this day, get such a nice suprise - and well-chosen gift.

Honestly, I feel happy and bowled over, all at once.
