Oh my lord, they really DO scream

Our sedentary, poorly-sighted basset hound literally stumbled upon a baby rabbit tonight. And promptly picked it up and wouldn't give it up. Husband had to drag him into the house, rabbit still firmly implanted in his mouth, to get it from him.
It actually didn't seem to sustain too much damage, as far as we could tell, but I worry that away from its family, it's a goner. At one point it SHRIEKED. Wow, what a noise. And then our cat yowled even louder than the baby rabbit, because he wanted that furry moving object oh yes he wants the preciousssss.
I shouldn't be rooting for it; if it lives, next year it will be muching the hell out of my flowers.
Kid went into the bathroom and cried for ten minutes.

Another bunny story (not a Happy Bunny story, either)
Date: 2006-05-22 12:10 am (UTC)I saw this & ran to the back door to try & stop her... Spooner saw me & ran into the house, baby bunny still in her jaws, as if to say "I broke my toy, can you fix it?" Back outside, I pried her jaws open to make her drop it. Beyond help, I scooped it up with a shovel & dumped it over the fence. I hate to say it, but I couldn't make myself put it out of its misery. :^(
