There is another computer platform in the world called "Macintosh" or just "Mac." I know Mac users are small in number, but we do exist. In fact, my entire office uses Macs. This is why it's so goddamned annoying when you launch something and fail to indicate anywhere that it's not Mac-compatible.

What's hilarious is that there are offices at my own university who keep launching nonfunctional applications and then act suprised--SURPRISED!--when any of us are a bit chagrined when it doesn't work.

I think I could accept that not everything is Mac-compatible. If you'd just SAY SO before I invest time and effort fruitlessly trying.

And I'd like to send a personal shout-out of the national database whose Java wizard so completely jacked up my safari that even my computer guys can't restore it.

I never used one before working here, and I'm still all-PC at home.

My boss is getting so sick of the Mac BS she's considering buying PC for two of us. I get to be one of them.

A) I don't know what models you guys use, but if you use relatively current models with the current OS, then you can open Windows applications inside your Mac.

B) Why are you using Macs if the rest of the university isn't? You should at least be running machines using both platforms. Homogeneity within just one office but incompatible with the rest of the organization is... inefficient.

A) Virtual PC slows us way down. So much so that only one of us can stand to use it.

B) As it happens, we're not the only office. It's just that our IT people and central database people constantly forget that major data-providing offices across the campus use Macs. It's remarkable, really.

Not Virtual PC. If you have an Intel Mac, you can run Bootcamp or Parallels.

Actually pretty snappy (assuming you're doing things like video editing)
