My Higher Ed ideas....
Sep. 3rd, 2003 12:33 pmA couple folks have suggested that the "study abroad requirement" isn't one of my better ideas. But I'm sticking with it. I think it's like foreign language study: not everyone enjoys it, but . . . a lot of people think it's a requirement before one can truly be "educated." Of course, I studied two languages and am fluent in neither, so I'm not sure what it accomplished. But I'm glad I did it.
I was accepted to a Jr-year-in-England program but wussed out and didn't go. I've regretted that.
BTW, I'd still consider it "abroad" if someone just wanted to go up to University of Toronto for a term. I'll be generous.
Edited to add: I'm going to have to get Bill Gates on board to help with the cost, I now realize.

New Yorkers...
Sep. 3rd, 2003 03:42 pmI'm trying to get my trip to NJ planned. We dithered about dates so long, I am now having trouble getting a reasonable fare into Newark. LaGuardia is way the fuck cheaper, but getting there is a PITA for my friends. So now I'm thinking about flying into LaGuardia but spending some time in the city on either end of the trip. My Q: If I am in the city (and, say, having a meal with you Big Apple Dopers) how difficult is it to get to Newark airport via public transportation? Or vice versa: if they get my sorry ass to Newark airport, could I get into the city (and eventually to LaGuardia) without spending an arm and a leg?
