Mellow 4th, except for the grisly recounting of a bear eating a human

I felt the need to do something "special" for the 4th, so we went as a family to the Toledo Zoo. There we did the "Behind the Scenes" tour, which was awesome because we got a lot of background info on the Polar bears and got to see Nikita, the male baby, fairly close up. Plus our guide told us about the college kid who went into the polar bear cage after hours on a dare in the 1970s and GOT DISMEMBERED. She included things like "luckily the bear didn't eat his wallet, so they knew who it was." Sweet. The story was totally not the kind of thing you expect to hear from an Official Zoo Employee.

Husband said it was the best $20 he ever spent and tipped her $10.
