Quiz answers, because it takes me awhile.

Three of you tied for top honors: Nancy, Dave, and Elizabeth. I loved the extra comments. I feel especially gratified that Nancy, who doesn't get to answer quizzes on LJ because she's all too often the one running them, did so well. I have no love for OK (consider my heritage) but the quiz originated from a going-away party we had last year when a colleague moved to OK.
1. Will Rogers died of what?
A plane crash
2. What movie staring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton had many scenes shot in Oklahoma?
Twister
3. Oklahoma touches six states. Name them.
Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Colorado. Missouri. It touches a couple of these states just barely.
4. One of the 20th century's greatest athletes . . .
Jim Thorpe
5. In the musical Oklahoma, one song advocates friendship between what two battling factions? The Farmers and the Cowmen
6. OK's capital is Oklahoma City. There is only one other state whose state name appears in the name of its capital. Which state?
It's tricky--Indiana
7. Oklahoma is home to what Hall of Fame?
C. National Cowboy Hall of Fame
8. Oral Roberts U is located in Tulsa. It's known for the 60-foot statue of what?
Big praying hands. Sort of creepy looking
9. Who is the Okie from Muskogee?
Merle Haggard
10. Name the family of Okies (last name) who hit the road in Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. The Joads
11. What are the official colors of the Oklahoma Sooners?
Crimson and cream. That's red and white to normal people, but you know how fashionable it is to claim words like "Scarlett" or "Garnet" or "Maize" instead of just plain old names. Many of you guessed that red may not be just plain red, but no one guessed cream. And why would you? I also feel compelled to add that my uncle played in a very landmark game where Nebraska just KILLED OK when no one expected them to. OK had a 74-game winning streak in the conference, and Nebraska was weak. People went so apeshit they had to cancel Monday classes. It was 1959.
12. Jimmy Johnson is one of only two football coaches to have won both a Super Bowl and a NCAA National Championship. The other was an OU coach...
Barry Switzer. I hate him too, but that was in my blood, growing up in NE when I did.
13. Shirley Jones played the lead female role in the movie version of Oklahoma. In the next year she'd star in another big musical…
b. Carousel, in 1956
14. Route 66 runs through Oklahoma. Where did Route 66 start?
The answer I was thinking of was Chicago, although had someone said LA that correct too. In truth it's a holdover to the fact that the original question was written to be multiple-choice, and the western option wasn't among the answers. But I confess I think of it as starting in Chicago because I like to think of the joy of hopping in the car and "heading west!" which isn't meant to endorse the supposed supremacy of the east coast.
15. Which two country stars claim OK as their home state?
a. Vince Gill & Toby Keith
I did NOT know until today that Vince Gill was in Pure Praire League. Well! Now, while Garth Brooks is from OK, his answermate Kenny Chesney isn't. He's from Tennessee. Which reminds me: Do we know the story behind why the Zellweiger union failed?
16. What is on the state flag of Oklahoma?
b. A Native American battle shield
OK has an assload of Native Americans, because that's where the U.S. shoved a lot of them when it wanted them out of other lands.
17. The Outsiders describes the tensions between two high school groups. What were the groups' names?
The Socs (Socials) and the Greasers. I read this as a kid and thought the first group was pronounced SOCKS.
