Well, I think we won't do that again

Mark suggested we let the offspring have some ice cream as one more good test of the dairy intolerance. I thought that was quite a load of dairy to foist on him, but what the hell. We'd find out something.

At bedtime the kid was complaining of a splitting headache and joint & muscle pain. He used to complain about stuff like that fairly regularly, but he hasn't since the diet got underway.

well that's a pretty clear test then, at least. sorry he's in pain. ugh.

Wow, sorry to hear that.

Well, now you know. I am relieved that it was just the headache and muscle/joint pain. I was very worried this was going to be another diarrhea story.

Aw, poor Kirk.

So have you now made the official decision that both gluten and dairy are out, or is just dairy the for-sure thing right now?

I'm 100% sure on dairy and 85% on wheat. The dairy thing is sad, because he really misses pizza and being able to do things like accept invitations to go out for ice cream with the baseball team.

I know, or massive puking. Poor kid.

Any idea of what kind of dairy intolerance? Lactose? I'm curious because, as a kid, I didn't produce enough lactase and I ended up with stomach cramps, gas, and possibly diarrhea (I can't remember). I grew out of it (thankfully; orange juice in cereal isn't the best), and the only lasting effect is that I despise the taste of milk. Headaches and joint and muscle pains were never a part of it, though; now I'm wondering if I just had it easy, or whether Kirk's reacting to more than just the lactose.

I don't know--we've been avoiding all dairy. I suppose we could see how he does with just lactose- or casein-free stuff,
