My husband scored his first enemy casualty today. Caught it with peanut butter! It was fat and glossy and healthy--and brown! It's field mice who are feasting on the dog food!

I missed the initial excitement but I dug through the trash to find the corpse so I could see it for myself. I felt sad, because I love rodents and the mouse was so cute, but we had to draw the line somewhere.

My husband is practically swaggering. However, he was pretty grossed out when I was digging through the trash for the body.

Gross is NOT digging through the trash to find a mouse corpse. No, not at all. Gross wondering just what the hell that really freakin' weird smell is (having small children, as I do, I'm sure you know the difference between "weird smell" and "really freakin' weird smell"), and realizing that said really freakin' weird smell is coming from the vicinity of the couch. The couch that you happen to be sitting on. GAAAAAAAH!

So you move the couch, and the icky mouse corpse that you find tells you a) you have mice, and b) it's time to buy traps so you can hear them snap and get rid of them pronto, BEFORE you find them the way I did. :D

I always think it's so cute when people do their own pest control.

Sheesh, Karen, if your husband is swaggering over one mouse kill, I oughta get a freakin' medal.

Just keep up with the traps. You most likely have more than one mousie.

Cristi, did you get my email about the proper deployment of traps? Any luck?

Yeah, that's pretty much a guarantee. An ex kept mice as pets for a while, so I had a chance to see their breeding prowess up close. Three mice turned into 30 mice inside of a month. Keep up with the traps.

His swagger was long overdue. These mice have been licking the cheese off the traps without being caught for over a week. Sneaky little bastards.

Mr Higgins doesn't do the destructo-mouse bit?

Apparently not. I wanted to show the mouse to him in hopes of shaming him, but he was asleep somewhere. He's caught them before, outside, so I know it's possible, but he's not doing his duty lately.
