I guess the kid has been toodling around with some kind of untreated bone fracture for over a week. Go Mom!

This might run in the family because my sister once told my nephew to "shake it off" and keep playing football after a bad hit, and he ended up having something broken. Oops.

I don't think this is terribly serious--throw it into a splint for 10 days, x-ray it again. But no baseball in the interim.

ETA: When he fell (this was in Maine) I did think we might be headed for the hospital. His face was really white, he wanted to be carried, etc. But he recovered fast and could move his arm well and since then has been playing drums, throwing rocks, building lego, riding a bike.....it was only his inability to catch a baseball without pain that led us to go to the doctor.

This was posted on another message board explaining why Ivy league grads go into investment banking instead of low-paying professions like teaching...and why that's a good and appropriate thing for such bright, able souls to avoid the field.

"The most trying part of this profession [elementary education] is ... is having to deal with the complex emotions and immaturity of younger children. .. there's nothing "special" about that line of work. .. it doesn't require any of sort of "specialized skill" whatsoever."

The good news is, the guy who wrote it is an ignorant 19-year old.

The bad news is, I think about 60% or more of the overall population believes it's essentially true.
