It was pretty fun. One of the other moms, who has an older son in addition to her 2nd grader, said "I'm just a boy mom. I just love having sons."
And I totally got that. I mean, I know it sounds sexist and stereotyped and cliched, and mothers of girls might find that either eye-rolley or offensive, but I totally got her. There really is something special about boys (just like there is something special and unique about girls) and sometimes, one just revels in it. I know if I had a daughter I'd enjoy the special chickie things we'd do together (and yes, I'd take my daughter camping!). But the boy things are neat.
I've said more than once that I'm glad I had boys. I love being a girl, but I'm not very girly, and I don't know if I could do all that girl-stuff with a daughter. There's only so much pink I can tolerate.
I feel the same way. My boys can really drive me insane sometimes, like today for instance, but I'm not a very girlie girl. I couldn't teach a girl anything about makeup or hair or clothes and I was never very good with the boys so I wouldn't do very good in that dept. either. My boys are wild but the rest of them I get.
Yeah, but it doesn't have to be girly girl pink stuff. I went camping with a dozen 8-year old girls and it was way fun. And I can see how the boy thing would be neat in its way, too; I don't think that's sexist. Just a different kind of vibe, or whatever you want to call it. You love 'em and delight in what they are.
