I don't know what to make of this.

My son's school is observing National Talk Like a Pirate Day.

HIS SCHOOL.

Just sounds like something fun they've latched on to. Maybe they'll give 'em a history lesson along with?

I dunno, if he follows his dad's model that may start in high school.

Yaar!

Never before has this icon been so timely!

How funny, what are they doing in celebration?

According to the email:

"Don't be a landlubber - get in the spirit and wear yur finest pirate garb. Scallywags an' Old Salts will be a dressed to the nines - no tellin who'll walk the plank or be dancing with the barnacles by sundown, Arrrrrgg."

Every once in awhile the faculty all get together and dress in something themish, so I'll bet they'll do it the nines.

If they're using it as a thematic unit, it could be educational, too. Just saying. Fair play for the email. They at least told you about it before they did it. What if he came home and called you a wench and told you to walk the plank? :)

Arrr, Matey!

Ok seriously, it's time to start looking into private schools in your area. I guess it's fun and all, but it's hardly a Nat'l education boost. I gotta find the post I did with that link about this topic a while back. So funny.

Oh no, we already pay for the privelege of sending him here. It *IS* a private school.

[identity profile] woohag.livejournal.com 2007-09-18 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
WOW, ha. I'm trying to find my "talk like a pirate" post but just so you know, I agree with the others that they just adopted it for fun.

Oh, I know they did. I'm sure the kids will LOVE it. I'm just not sure whether I find it funny, annoying, disturbing, or what. Partly, I was thinking it was kind of tired. Seems like it took off 3 or so years ago on the internet and was HI-LAR-IOUS for awhile there and now isn't so much. But maybe that just my cynical, bitter, and haggish side shining through again.

[identity profile] woohag.livejournal.com 2007-09-18 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, 3 years ago the kids were practically in diapers, so for THEM it's all new. Just think of it that way. :D

We have the gear--not that I think my kid will dress up.

A couple of years ago, he said he wanted to be a pirate for Halloween. I was totally excited, was willing to go to some lengths to do the costume up right, and the esteemable gundy even ceded me some of the trappings from her son's last pirate costume....but on that night, all my son wanted to wear was a Long John Silvers hat, plain pants, and a shirt. Or, as gundy aptly summed it up, he dressed like a LJS employee. Even his little friends were like, "Those look like your regular clothes!" So all the gear is unworn....maybe he'll go for it.

If he goes for it, take some pics and put them in place of the other Halloween ones...noone will be the wiser.

Of course, if they teach him how to spell privilege it will be money well-spent.
