When you work for a University, it's true you don't get bonuses, or expensive parties, or any of those type of things more common in private corporations and businesses.
But oh, the software discounts. Students, faculty, and staff can buy stuff soooo cheap.
We got our entire Microsoft Office Suite for $29. That's Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Frontpage. And yesterday I just bought a $1000 software package (Visual Studio .NET Pro) for $50. SPSS and Endnote were both discounted (although not dirt cheap). The list of available discounted software is long. Hardware too. Ooh la la.t

Date: 2003-01-07 09:41 am (UTC)Do you know my computer has 64 MB of RAM? That's, like, a gazzilion and three MB less than what I need or want. I called up the store and asked how much installation would be. They said around $100 for another 128. I dunna wanna pay that! And if I want to get it up to 512 I have to sell my heart and first through third born children.

Because it's possible that my husband is going to need Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Developer. But that's a fuckload expensive program.
Then again, if you got it for me, I think we could call us even for dinner.
