Omg my poor cat

I just tracked down the neighbor kid to pay him for catsitting while we were away for new years... And he told me he forgot to come over. My poor lonely cat!!! She obviously managed to get into her dry food, but GEEZ I feel awful. I thought he was uber-responsible.

I hope you read the kid the riot act.

Wow. How long were you gone? We leave the cat home alone for up to four, four and a half days. It isn't so much food I'm worried about as losing access to water if something goes wrong.

Having to worry about that does make me miss how we did it when I was a kid. We put out a huge amount of dry food, left a window open and asked the cat to not invite any friends, raccoons, or possums over to binge.

But I feel for the kid (though hopefully you or a parent made it clear how unacceptable that was). When I was around 13 I was given the task of going by my grandparents house every few days while they were on vacation and to mow the lawn. They had no pets it was just a quick check-in.

Of course, I didn't go over even once until the day before they were getting back to mow the lawn. Walk into the house and hear an odd noise. The water in the basement from a burst line to the washing machine was three feet deep. I have no idea how long it had been going. So, of course, I lied and said it must have happened in the three days since I'd last been by.

Please don't tell my grandparents. I never did come clean.

Just goes to show; you can't trust teenagers or octogenarians.

I would seriously maim the person who forgot about my animal after agreeing to care for them. Seriously.

I guess at least he was honest about forgetting? Though... ugh. :(

Yeah, he could've lied. In fact it might have been tempting for him to do so, but he didn't. I;m glad you stopped by on Wednesday for the rats--that meant she saw at least one human face!
