Only now looking back as an adult do I realize that one of my little friend's mom's was KRAZYTOWN KRAZY the entire time we were growing up. As a kid, a lot of her actions seemed as incomprehensible as other stuff adults did. She would go off on these manic fundamentalist Christian jags periodically, and I remember being completely indignant when she took us to a magic show where the first half was magic tricks (performed by a real magician, not a clown and certainly not a Lady Clown), then intermission, and then "now kids, let's talk about REAL magic, the magic of GOD'S LOVE FOR YOU."
mean, but also kind of awesome. You know, awesomely terrible. I like to think about the earnest, hopeful, person who cooked up the idea of how they could spread God's word in this way, and how fulfilled they felt in bringing it to life. Only to have a lot of kids like Elizabeth watch it unfold with resentment and horror.
