I think it is just so great that Spirit and Opportunity are still on Mars, still working. It's been over 3 years, and they'd originally been expected to lose operational ability after a few months. How awesome is that? I recall seeing a special about the team of scientists working with their data--they were trying to compress so much into that short period of time, and they were converting their own workdays to fit Mars days and that was difficult to adjust to....I assume they aren't still trying to do that, heh. Just another routine day dowloading data from the rovers, ho hum.
Here's another cool thing: the library has a summer reading program for GROWNUPS. I inquired about the one for kids and the librarian asked if I might be interested in one myself. I kind of snorted, because it's not like I need encouragement to read--it's my favorite means of procrastination. But then I saw you could be entered in a drawing for Purple Rose theatre tickets and I was like "I'M IN!" I suppose the next step is to make a caterpillar on the wall with a body made up of circles for every book I read....
My current audiobook had the line "In my opinion, 'dignitary' is a one-word oxymoron." I've loved that so much I keep turning that phrase over in my mind. I'm also reading a book about birding in the city that is just wonderful. It's a series of short articles and essays, and it's been a total delight.
